On October 20, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli reaffirmed his commitment to the One China policy during a meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation led by Chen Jining, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee. Oli stressed that Nepal would not permit any anti-China activities within its borders, reiterating support for China’s stance that Taiwan is an inseparable part of its territory.
The meeting, held at Oli’s official residence in Kathmandu, also focused on enhancing bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and collaboration between the two countries’ communist parties. Oli highlighted China’s success under President Xi Jinping in poverty reduction and development, expressing Nepal’s interest in learning from these advancements. Additionally, he discussed the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges between Nepal and China to strengthen diplomatic, trade, and people-to-people ties.
Oli briefed the delegation about Nepal’s coalition government, formed by his CPN (UML) party and the Nepali Congress to stabilize the nation politically. He also emphasized the need for continued support from China to foster Nepal’s economic development.
Chen Jining reassured Nepal of China’s unwavering support for its prosperity and political decisions. He further emphasized that China would always respect Nepal’s internal affairs and decisions made by its political leaders. Key figures, including Nepal’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, CPN (UML) officials, and China’s Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song, were also present at the meeting.
