Kavita Chhutani’s Journey of Crafting Nutritious Bowls with The Bowl Therapy
Kavita Chhutani’s entrepreneurial journey began during the pandemic when people, confined to their homes, started paying closer attention to their health and dietary habits. From a cloud kitchen in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, Chhutani’s venture, The Bowl Therapy, sends out beautifully crafted, Instagram-worthy bowls of oatmeal that are packed with nutrition and flavor. These bowls, adorned with seasonal fruits, nuts, seeds, and homemade almond milk, offer a balance of proteins, carbs, vitamins, and other essential nutrients, with some bowls containing as many as 22 ingredients.
Chhutani’s approach to food combines health and enjoyment. As a firm believer that food should be both nourishing and enjoyable, she has been able to capture the essence of this belief through her creations. “It is very important for you to enjoy the food that you’re eating in addition to it being balanced and nutritional,” says Chhutani. Her own favorite oat bowl is a blend of chocolate, fruits, and oatmeal—a perfect example of her philosophy that nutritious food can also be indulgent.
Chhutani, who is also a jewelry designer by profession, started The Bowl Therapy as a passion project during the lockdown. At first, she would create dishes, including savory meals, and share pictures of her creations on social media. One day, she posted an image of her oat bowls, a dish she had been eating and refining for years. This simple social media post was the start of something much bigger. A friend, who had seen her posts and suffered from acidity, became her first client and found that the bowls alleviated her condition. Word of mouth spread quickly, and soon, orders for Chhutani’s bowls started to pour in, accompanied by praise from satisfied customers.
What started as a small-scale venture has since grown into a successful business. Chhutani finds joy in creating and decorating her bowls, and the positive feedback from her clients has been a key motivator in continuing her journey. Many of her customers, some of whom suffer from conditions like diabetes or acidity, have shared how her oat bowls have helped them manage their health. Intrigued by the impact her dishes were having, Chhutani began to study the health benefits of oats more deeply, discovering that they are rich in antioxidants and soluble fiber, making them a highly nutritious food.
According to the American Heart Association, oats have been linked to numerous heart-healthy benefits, such as lowering cholesterol and aiding in weight control. However, as the study cautions, oats alone cannot make up for an otherwise unhealthy diet, and Chhutani is mindful of this. Her bowls, which come in vegan options as well, contain no artificial ingredients or added sugars, aligning with her commitment to providing wholesome, natural nourishment.
Today, Chhutani’s clientele is diverse, including pregnant women, working professionals who have the bowls delivered to their offices, the elderly, doctors, gym trainers, and fitness enthusiasts. Her business has grown significantly, and she’s even receiving orders from people in small villages. Encouraged by the positive response, she is now considering expanding her reach even further by training other startup founders and sharing her recipes.
Despite the growing demand, Chhutani is conscious of the balance she needs to strike between maintaining the quality of her products and scaling her business. “I am so happy because health has been such a concern for us,” she reflects. Although she is keen to share her recipes on Instagram and potentially create videos, her current workload with a steady customer base prevents her from doing so just yet. Nevertheless, she is excited about the future and is thinking strategically about how to grow her business in the right direction.
Chhutani’s journey is a shining example of how passion and perseverance can lead to success, even in challenging times. By focusing on health, authenticity, and customer satisfaction, she has managed to turn a simple bowl of oatmeal into a thriving business, bringing nourishment and happiness to her clients across Pune. The Bowl Therapy’s success reflects a larger shift toward healthier eating habits, with Chhutani at the forefront, providing delicious, nutritious, and visually appealing meals that resonate with the modern consumer’s desire for both taste and wellness.
