Illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were deported from south Delhi, following a crackdown on illegal immigration by Delhi Police. On Saturday, police apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals, including five women, near Arjangarh Metro Station in Fatehpur Beri. The operation involved raids across slums, labour camps, and unauthorised colonies, where illegal immigrants were found and detained.
Details of the Arrests of Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants
The arrested individuals were identified as Mohammad Umor Faruk, 33, and Riyaj Miyan, 20, along with five women. They had illegally crossed into India and were residing in Rajeev Nagar, Gurugram. During their interrogation, the immigrants confirmed their Bangladeshi nationality, a fact later corroborated through verification of their mobile phones and documents. The authorities had conducted a thorough investigation, which led to the discovery of their true identities. The detainees were handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after the necessary paperwork was completed.
Crackdown on Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants in Delhi
This operation is part of a broader campaign by Delhi Police to target and apprehend illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan mentioned that last week, five Bangladeshi illegal immigrants, including women, were caught as part of the same drive. Some of those apprehended had been working on construction sites, while others were intending to join beauty parlours. The ongoing efforts highlight Delhi Police’s commitment to tackling the issue of illegal immigration.
Ongoing Investigation and Operation
The police also uncovered an illegal immigration racket, which involved the forgeries of essential documents such as Aadhaar cards and voter IDs. During the operation, 21 fake Aadhaar cards, six PAN cards, and four voter IDs were seized. In response to the rise in illegal immigration cases, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor instructed the city’s police commissioner to initiate a two-month long drive to detect and penalize illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
This incident highlights the continued efforts by Delhi Police to address illegal immigration and enforce stricter border security measures.
