Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a grenade attack on Amritsar’s Islamabad police station. The attack occurred on December 17, 2024, around 3 AM, but fortunately, there were no casualties. The Punjab Police have made significant progress in their investigation, linking the incident to a narco-terror module allegedly operated by foreign handlers.
Grenade Attack and Arrests
Grenade attacks have become an increasingly alarming trend, especially in border regions, with criminal organizations often using them to destabilize law enforcement. The two arrested men, Gurjeet Singh and Baljit Singh, were apprehended after extensive investigation by the Punjab State Special Operation Cell (SSOC). Gurjeet Singh, from Dande in Amritsar, and Baljit Singh, from Chhapa in Tarn Taran, have both confessed to their involvement in the grenade assault.
Narco-Terror Link Uncovered
The grenade attack was not an isolated incident. According to Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, the attack was part of a broader narco-terror operation involving smuggling drugs and weapons from Pakistan. Investigators uncovered a network operating under the direction of a foreign-based individual, Sandeep Singh (known as Seepu), who is allegedly based in the United States. Singh is believed to have coordinated smuggling operations that transported heroin and firearms from Pakistan into India.
Heroin and Arms Seized
During their investigation, the police recovered 1.4 kilograms of heroin from Gurjeet Singh’s possession. Additionally, a hand grenade and two pistols were seized from the arrested men. These weapons are suspected to have been used in the grenade attack on the Islamabad police station. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the complete extent of the smuggling operation and the identities of other individuals involved.
Ongoing Investigation
The Punjab Police are intensifying efforts to trace the origins of the smuggled drugs and weapons and identify the foreign handlers involved. A new case has been registered under various acts, including the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act, at the SSOC Amritsar Police Station.
The authorities are continuing their investigation to dismantle this international narco-terror network and prevent further attacks.
