Toxicity and abuse emerged as the key themes in the tragic story of Puneet Khurana, co-owner of the popular Woodbox Cafe in Delhi, who was found dead in his residence on New Year’s Eve. Puneet, 40, was reportedly dealing with a turbulent divorce from his estranged wife and business partner, Manika Pahwa. Days before his death, Ms Pahwa posted a cryptic message on social media alluding to “toxicity and narcissistic abuse,” stating she was now free from the ordeal.
Delhi Cafe Owner’s Death Sparks Allegations
Khurana’s family has accused Ms Pahwa of instigating his death, claiming she and her family members subjected him to mental pressure. Puneet’s sister alleged that Ms. Pahwa and her relatives coerced him, saying, “You can’t do anything, die by suicide if you dare.” The sister further stated that Puneet had recorded a video before his death, outlining how he was pressured and abused.
Focus On Marital And Business Discord
The couple, married since 2016, had been separated for two years. They co-owned the Woodbox Cafe and previously ran a bakery business. Following their decision to part ways, the division of their business assets was agreed upon during divorce proceedings. Puneet retained control of For God’s Bakery, while Ms. Pahwa took over Woodbox Cafe.
Despite this legal agreement, Khurana’s sister claimed Ms. Pahwa continued to demand her share from the bakery, creating repeated conflicts. “When the matter has been decided in court, raise the issue there. She kept calling him and demanding her share,” she said.
Social Media Post Hints At Tensions
Six days before Puneet’s death, Ms. Pahwa shared a detailed post on Instagram that did not name anyone but referred to “toxicity and narcissistic abuse.” She expressed gratitude for her newfound freedom and commented on values such as respect, kindness, and love, stating that they hold more significance than material possessions.
“I am free, and the beautiful ruins are part of me,” she wrote, adding that she hoped her alleged abusers would face their actions one day.
Family Seeks Justice
Khurana’s mother expressed grief and anger, alleging her son suffered in silence due to continuous harassment. “He would not share his problems openly, thinking we would be upset. He kept swallowing his grief,” she stated.
The family has lodged a formal complaint against Ms. Pahwa and her relatives, urging the police to take strict action. Investigations are underway, with authorities examining the recorded conversation and other evidence.
The tragic incident highlights the emotional and mental toll of unresolved marital disputes, emphasizing the importance of seeking support and legal recourse during such challenging times.
