Anna University Assault Case: CM Stalin Confirms Accused Is DMK Sympathiser, Promises Swift Justice

The Anna University Assault case has sparked widespread outrage in Tamil Nadu, with Chief Minister MK Stalin addressing the issue in the state assembly. Stalin confirmed that the accused in the case is a DMK sympathiser but clarified that he is not an official party member.

Swift Legal Action Taken

The Chief Minister assured the assembly that immediate legal action was taken against the accused. “The individual was arrested promptly, imprisoned, and charged under the stringent Goondas Act,” Stalin said. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to justice, he stated, “We aim to ensure a speedy trial in a special court, with a chargesheet filed within 60 days, to secure the maximum punishment for the perpetrator.”

Opposition’s Criticism

Despite Stalin’s assurances, the Opposition parties, AIADMK and BJP, accused the ruling DMK of failing to control crimes against women. AIADMK leaders staged a walkout and protested outside the assembly, chanting slogans such as “We condemn the CM” and “Don’t tell lies.”

The BJP also launched a series of protests, with its state president K. Annamalai staging a symbolic penance by whipping himself. The party’s women’s wing organized a protest march from Madurai to Chennai, demanding justice for the survivor.

Controversy Over DMK Connection

Stalin addressed allegations linking the accused to DMK leaders, stating, “The accused may have taken pictures with ministers and politicians, but he is not a DMK member, only a sympathiser. This is the truth.” He further clarified that even if the accused were a party member, strict action would have been taken.

The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance policy for such crimes, describing the incident as “a very serious issue” and assuring that justice for the victim remains a top priority.

The Crime That Shook Tamil Nadu

The case involves the sexual assault of a 19-year-old student on the Anna University campus. The incident sent shockwaves across the state and garnered national attention. The Tamil Nadu police, in the aftermath, urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation about the case to ensure a fair investigation.

Opposition parties, including the AIADMK, have been vocal about the state’s rising crime rates against women. They have repeatedly targeted the DMK government, holding it accountable for safety lapses and delays in addressing the public’s concerns.

The Anna University assault case continues to remain under scrutiny, with both political parties and the public closely monitoring the developments. Tamil Nadu’s government faces mounting pressure to deliver justice swiftly and restore confidence in the state’s law and order system.
