In a significant move, a New York court has combined three ongoing cases against industrialist Gautam Adani and his associates, centering on allegations of paying USD 265 million in bribes to secure solar energy contracts. This decision aims to streamline proceedings and avoid scheduling conflicts while ensuring judicial efficiency.
The court noted that the cases involve overlapping allegations and transactions, justifying a joint trial. The combined cases include US vs Adani and Others (a criminal case), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) vs Adani and Others (a civil case), and SEC vs Cabanes, which addresses charges against another accused party.

The cases have been reassigned to District Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis, who is already overseeing the criminal case against Adani. The court staff has been instructed to expedite the reassignment process. The decision underscores the court’s intent to handle the matter comprehensively and without unnecessary delays.

Adani and his associates are accused of paying USD 265 million (approximately Rs 2,029 crore) in bribes to secure solar energy contracts with state electricity distribution companies. Additionally, US prosecutors have alleged that the Adani Group concealed these actions from US banks and investors who provided funding for the projects.
The allegations have been strongly denied by the Adani Group. A spokesperson stated, “We are a law-abiding organization, fully compliant with all laws.” They emphasized that the indictment remains a charge, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
