India lost the second match of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The Kiwis win by 22 runs. Ravindra Jadeja’s Herculean effort couldn’t save India from the jaws of defeat.

India need 23 runs to win in the last two overs. All three outcomes are possible at the moment.

Ravindra Jadeja reaches his half-century. What a knock this has been from the mercurial all-rounder. He has been a pain in the head for the Kiwi bowlers with them finding no way to get him out.

Navdeep Saini falls after playing his best knock for India till date. He was bowled by Jamieson at 45. His knock consisted of five boundaries and two sixes.

Ravindra Jadeja had almost won the World Cup for India in 2019. Can he do the supposedly impossible task?

Ravindra Jadeja and Navdeep Saini have pulled India out to trouble and put them on the brink of a legendary comeback win. Earlier, quick wickets had almost doomed India to its fate when Saini came to the fray. The 27-year-old Saini has been absolutely phenomenal and at times even seemed to be at a better touch than Jadeja.

Shreyas Iyer’s knock of 52 runs proved to be fruitless as he fell to Hamish Bennett. With his wicket, India’s hopes of a revival gets slammed down. Jadeja is the only impactful batsman left in the fray now. It is upto him to do the almost-impossible task of winning for India. Shardul Thakur comes in.

Just when the duo of Iyer and Jadhav were starting to look threatening, Tim Southee struck down Kedar. Gives a catch straight to Nicholls. India are now five wickets down. Ravindra Jadeja comes in.

After losing KL Rahul’s wicket, it seemed India had no hopes of a recovery. But since then, Shreyas Iyer has struck up a good partnership with Kedar Jadhav. Iyer has looked in good touch, while Jadhav has played a slow but steady inning.

KL Rahul departs cheaply. Gets bowled by Colin De Grandhomme. Rahul misjudges the delivery and drags it onto the stumps. Angry with himself, he walks back to the pavilion.

India’s hopes to salvage a win in the second ODI seemed to lower after skipper Kohli was bowled by Tim Southee. The Men in Blue are now teetering with three wickets down. Hopes have now been placed on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to take India out of this bothersome spot. Both have been the standout players of this series.

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria criticised Agarwal and Shaw and wrote that they are not worthy to play in place of Manish Pandey and Rishabh Pant.

India in deep trouble after losing both Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal in a span of three overs. The onus will now be on skipper Kohli and in-form Shreyas Iyer to take India through. In the last match too, both the openers failed to make any impact. Shaw was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson.

New Zealand sucessfully remove opener Mayank Agarwal in the third over. Prithvi Shaw has looked in fabulous touch ever since coming on and has hit five boundaries so far. Mayank’s wicket gave way for skipper Virat Kohli. It was Bennett who got the first wicket for the Kiwis.

New Zealand finished at 273 for the loss of eight wickets. India need 274 to win the match.

New Zealand was off to a magnificent start after Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls set up a solid 93-run partnership for the first wicket. At one time it looked as if the Kiwis would easily cross 300. The Indian bowlers were clueless as to what they should do to restrict them.

That was when Yuzvendra Chahal decided to give the much-needed breakthrough for India with the wicket of Nicholls. Tom Blundell came in and looked set to strike up a partnership with Guptill when Shardul Thakur removed him.

Guptill was going strong at 79 when bad luck struck him. Miscommunication between him and Ross Taylor led to him being run out. It was at this moment that the Indian bowlers struck and the New Zealand wickets fell like a pack of cards. Ross Taylor held the end as he struck up a 76-run partnership with Kyle Jamieson. They managed to take their team to a respectable total.

Chahal and Thakur took three and two wickets respectively while Jadeja took one. Jasprit Bumrah proved ineffective once again as he did not contribute with the wickets.

Ross Taylor in fine form. Brings up another half-century. He now has most 50-plus scores for New Zealand against India. So far, he has hit just one maximum.

The Kiwis have been put in a tight spot after some incredible spells by the Indian bowlers. Ross Taylor has managed to hold the end of the line for New Zealand. They look set for a pretty low score after a tremendous start. Chahal has been the pick of the bowlers after taking three vital wickets.

Meanwhile, NZ skipper Kane Williamson has confirmed that his shoulder injury is progressing well and he is hopeful of being fit for the third ODI at Mount Maunganui on Tuesday.

New Zealand were cruising until the Indian bowlers took charge and picked up quick wickets to put the batting side under pressure. Tom Latham, James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme and Mark Chapman were dismissed cheaply. Jadeja, Thakur and Chahal took the wickets.

Three quick wickets put New Zealand under pressure. Jadeja removed Kiwi skipper Tom Latham by catching him in front of the stumps on the back of his thigh.

RUNOUT! Oh no. Martin Guptill looked set and in fabulous form but his luck did not side with him. Poor communication from both the batsmen concluded with one going back to the pavilion. Shardul Thakur with the throw and KL Rahul with the dismissal. One has to feel bad for Guptill. He was on his way towards a century but miscommunication between him and Ross Taylor meant he walks back dejected. Tom Lathan walks in.

Shardul Thakur strikes! The 28-year-old is proving his haters wrong by putting in a hell of a performance. Takes the wicket of the dangerous looking Tom Blundell. Blundell ended up mistiming his shot and gave a comfortable catch to Navdeep Saini at mid-on. Ross Taylor comes in.

After Nicholls wicket, Tom Blundell came in and has ably supported Guptill. Indian bowlers will hope to take quick wickets to put some pressure on the Kiwis. So far, only Chahal has managed to make some impact with the sole wicket.

Martin Guptill brings up his 36th ODI fifty in 49 balls. It has been an excellent knock so far by him. This is also his first fifty in last 11 innings.

The partnership between Guptill and Nicholls (93) was the third highest partnership vs India at Auckland.

OUT! Chahal finally takes the important wicket of Henry Nicholls. He caught him before the wicket. The umpire signalled out and Nicholls was not too happy with the decision. After having a talk with Guptill, he decided to review the decision. The review showed that the ball did not contact the bat before hitting the pad. New Zealand lost their review.

DROPPED! Yuzvendra Chahal drops a dolly and it is Henry Nicholls who will heave a sigh of relief. The ball was in his hands but somehow it managed to pop out. Chahal was the bowler. Nicholls miscued the ball and hit it straight towards Chahal.

Indian bowlers have failed to provide the much needed breakthrough. Guptill has looked good with four boundaries and a six. Nicholls has proved equally important. Jasprit Bumrah has been the target for the Kiwis with 29 runs coming off his four overs at an economy rate of 7.25.

So far so good for New Zealand as their openers Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls have given a good start. The Indian bowlers haven’t found a way to go through them. Guptill will desperately need to convert this start into a big score. He hasn’t been in the best of forms and this innings might provide the much-needed spark for him.

Team India skipper Virat Kohli has won the toss and elected to field first.

The main area of concern for Kohli will be their bowling which has been a touch expensive. Both spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja went for plenty in the first game and even pacers, including Jasprit Bumrah, failed to put pressure on the Kiwi batters.

Meanwhile, what the Black Caps will need to work upon is to hold their nerves in the dying stages of the game and make sure they keep their calm, just like Taylor did in Hamilton.
