Maha Kumbh Mela 2025: Over 1 Crore Devotees Take First Amrit Snan

Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj witnessed a wave of devotion as over 1 crore devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam on Makar Sankranti for the first Amrit Snan, marking a grand beginning to this world-famous religious congregation. The iconic event saw the participation of 13 akharas, each following a meticulously planned sequence for the sacred dip.

The Sacred Ritual Of Amrit Snan

The Amrit Snan, also referred to as the Shahi Snan, is one of the most significant rituals of the Maha Kumbh Mela. On this auspicious day, devotees believe that taking a dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers cleanses sins and bestows spiritual liberation.

As early as dawn, the chants of “Har Har Gange” echoed through the ghats, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere. Smeared with ash, the Naga Sadhus—representing one of the 13 akharas—led the bathing procession, marking the beginning of the ritual during the sacred Brahma Muhurta.
