Russian leader Vladimir Putin on February 24th, 2022, launched what Ukrainian officials demarcated as an all-out invasion of the country. Russia spent weeks building up a huge military force along the Ukrainian border and in neighbouring Belarus. A new chapter was started in a war that had been going on for eight years in the country’s east and had already taken thousands of lives.

UKRAINE AND RUSSIA FACE-TO-FACE

In the eastern Donetsk region, during the fight the previous day, approximately 800 Russian soldiers were killed-estimated by Ukraine’s military. The western allies have pledged the support of supplies of armoured battle vehicles but not the tankers that Ukraine wants.

Following its regular morning routine or a roundup of fighting, Ukraine’s military and Russia’s forces were focused on a combative in the Bakhmut sector as well as attacks in the Kupiansk and Avdiivka sectors which were unsuccessful.

The US administration on Wednesday, through a senior official, assessed fighting in the Donetsk region, especially around Bakhmut.

“The fight is still heated; what is sighted in Bakhmut is expected to be seen in other places at the front too, that the fight is going to be continued in the coming months,” the official said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in his address, over a video in the evening, that Ukrainian troops outside Bakhmut were constantly inducting several losses on their conflicting neighbours and were claiming the hard work they put in; Russia, on the other hand, was building up its forces in the region.

Citing the Ukrainian ministry’s main intelligence directorate, Ukraine’s deputy defence minister Hannah Malyar posted on the telegram app that these noticeable losses for Russia meant that they would need to declare in the first quarter of the year another partial mobilization.

Russia’s TASS news agency reported that Ukrainian artillery wounded 15 people and killed five which included 4 emergency workers. Claimed the governor of the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia region- Yegeny Balitsky.

ARMOUR SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE

Emmanuel Macron – French President told Mr Zelensky that France would be sending AM X-10 RC, which is an armoured combat vehicle, to help the war effort, a French official stated on Wednesday after the two leaders had a conversation over the telephone.

Australia had previously given Kyiv 90 of its bushmaster vehicles, which is an armoured units hardened against threats and landmines. The French official stated these would be the first armoured vehicles from the West delivered to Ukraine.

Later on, Wednesday, president Joe Biden stated that the United States has been pondering upon sending Bradley fighting vehicles to Ukraine, which has been fighting the biggest land conflict since 1945 in Europe. Various cities have been destroyed, millions of people have been displaced from their homes, and thousands have been killed since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

U.S. Army’s staple to carry troops from the mid-1980s has been the Bradley armoured vehicle which has a powerful gun. With Ukraine getting these armoured vehicles, they would gain more firepower on the battlefield, and it will, in turn, strengthen their ability in trench warfare, The U.S. army has thousands of these.

Although Ukraine has repeatedly asked western allies for heavier fighting vehicles like the Abrams and German-made leopard tanks, The U.S. president’s decision is likely, to fall short of sending the Abrams tanks that Ukraine has sought.

Mr. Macron was thanked by Mr Zelensky for the announcement, and he said that it showcased the necessity and need for other allies of Ukraine to help Provide heavier weapons.

Approximately $21.3 billion have been given in security assistance so far to Ukraine. With the probability of being announced in the coming days, The United States is preparing another package of weapons for Ukraine.

Increasing the capability of the weapons that The United States has sent, which include javelin anti-tank missiles, NASAMS surface-to-air missiles, HIMARS rocket system and shoulder-fired Stinger anti-aircraft missiles.

The United States had pledged to send the Sophisticated patriot missile system which will help to repel and counter Russian missile and drone attacks, while Mr. Zelensky visited Washington last month.

Ukraine and its allies accused Russia of a war which was unprovoked to seize territory. On February 24th, stating that Russia had threats to its security and needed to protect Russian speakers, they launched the “special military operation”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made sure to signal to the West and the allies of Ukraine that Russia will not back down over Ukraine; by sending a frigate on Wednesday to the Atlantic Ocean, with the help of missiles which can travel at more than five times the speed of sound-The new generation hypersonic cruise missiles.

In the year 2014, Russia invaded Ukraine in the east. During this time, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that the assault was just a defence of the ethnic Russians who lived in the eastern region, which is Donbas, out of which many don’t support the country’s New pro-western government.

But Putin used this invasion and took a part of Ukraine for Russia. Although the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula has not been recognised by the international communities, Russia has controlled the territory and its administration since it invaded it and claimed it in the year 2014.
