Hearing in the Supreme Court today on the matter of BSP MLAs going to Congress, BJP MLAs have appealed stay on voting rights
- BJP MLA Madan Dilawar argued – “High Court did not give any order, nor has it given gave stay”
- 6 BSP MLAs joined Congress, all are in Gehlot camp
Amid the political upheaval in Rajasthan, the case of BSP MLAs will be heard in the Supreme Court today. BJP MLA Madan Dilawar filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the August 6 order of the division bench of the High Court. He appealed that the voting rights of BSP MLAs should be banned in the assembly session starting on 14 August.
Dilawar also argued that after the single bench of the High Court, the Division Bench also did not give any order nor stay the BSP MLAs from joining Congress. On the other hand, the BSP also appealed on Saturday to transfer the matter from the High Court to the Supreme Court, but its application has not been listed yet.
The High Court, August 11
BJP will relocate its MLAs in a hotel in Jaipur from Tuesday, August 11. The Legislature Party will meet at 4 pm on Tuesday, after which all the MLAs will be moved to a hotel. Post the High Court decision, in the case of BSP MLAs, it will be decided how long the MLAs will stay in the hotel. If the verdict comes against the Congress, then BJP MLAs will demand floor test by bringing a no-confidence motion.
Gehlot, to all the MLAs – “Take a decision on the conscience”
The confusion of demolishing ‘stronghold’ and saving ‘home’ has increased in Rajasthan. There is discomfort in both the government and the opposition. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot wrote a sentimental letter to MLAs of all parties on Sunday morning that, “you should not be a part of the conspiracy to topple the government, decide based on what the conscience says”.
Only time will tell whether BSP members can officially support congress or will the Rajasthan government face the same fate that the Madhya Pradesh government did.
