Western Railway organises Vendor Development meet on Feb 11

The objective of this Vendor Meet was to aware the vendors about supply of common Goods & Services through Government e-Marketplace (GeM) to Railways and Letter of Credit Payment option for domestic contracts. The Chief Guest, Jyoti Prakash Pandey- Principal Chief Materials Manager/WR called upon the industry fraternity to be a partner in progress of Indian Railways and strengthen the Indian Railway Supply Chain Management System.Being one of the largest Railways in the world,with staggering volume of approx. 8.4 billion passengers& carrying 1.2 billion tonnes of freight annually, the Railways requires various kind of Mechanical, Electrical, Signaling,Track Fittings, Fuels & General items for production, operation & maintenance of its infrastructures. He added that Western Railway has gone far ahead in ease of doing business by 100% moving over to online procurement through IREPS & Government e-Marketplace for common Goods and Services. Initiative taken for introduction of Letter of Credit for payment to vendors through SBI in domestic contracts shows the commitment of Railways towards vendors. Uma Ranade- Principal Financial Advisor/WR while addressing the Meet stated steps being taken by the Govt. towards digitization and computerization of processes,and initiatives taken by Railways for bringing e-governance in procurement through GeM and e-tendering. She spoke about the recent initiative of Railways to start Letter of Credit as mode of payment in domestic contracts, and encouraged the vendors to participate in the process. Ashok Kumar- Chief Materials Manager/WR gave a power point presentation on the transformational changes in Railways in Materials Management Department.He said MSEs are greatly benefited in Railways under Public Procurement Policy -MSE order, 2012. MSEs get purchase preference over large scale industries, Exemption from payment of Earnest Money Deposit, relaxation in deposit of Security Deposit, Free registration in Railways etc.He further added that Western Railway is committed towards indigenization under Public Procurement(Preference to Make In India) Order 2017. Letter of Credit Payment Mode was explained by Manoj Sharma, AGM/ State Bank of India/Mumbai, and Benefits of doing business through GeM was explained by Nikhil Patil, Business partner Maharashtra region.Industries’ representatives were overwhelmingly involved during interactive session with their queries about Letter of Credit payment mode & procurement through GeM and IREPS. Display of items having lesser sources were also exhibited in the meet with a view to strengthen the vendor base of these items.In closing notes, S. B. Mishra- Dy. Chief Materials Manager referenced that, the manner in which the members associated with interactive session during meet, shows the accomplishment of objective of Vendor Meet. He expressed extraordinary gratitude to dignitaries, FICCI, CII, NSIC for encouraging the Vendors for joining this meet.
