The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received a bomb threat via email on Thursday, marking the second such incident in a month. The email, written in Russian, was sent to the central bank’s official website and mentioned plans to blow up the RBI.
A case has been registered against the unidentified sender at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg (MRA Marg) police station in Mumbai. Authorities have launched a thorough investigation and are actively working to track the source of the threat, police officials confirmed.
The incident comes just weeks after a similar bomb threat was made on November 16. In that case, a threatening call was made to the RBI’s customer care number by an individual claiming to be the “CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba.” The caller reportedly sang a song before issuing the threat. Lashkar-e-Taiba is the terror group responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks, one of the deadliest terror incidents in India.
Following the November threat, Mumbai Police conducted an extensive search but found no suspicious activity. The latest threat has prompted renewed security measures and heightened vigilance at the RBI headquarters.
Investigators are now working on both cases, aiming to uncover any possible connections between the two incidents and ensuring the safety of the institution.
