PM Modi foundation stone ceremony for Delhi University’s (DU) new campuses is scheduled for January 3, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the institution’s expansion and modernization. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will oversee the laying of foundation stones for DU’s campuses in East and West Delhi, which will include Veer Savarkar College, Sushma Swaraj College, and other state-of-the-art facilities.
This initiative is part of DU’s ambitious plan to enhance educational infrastructure while honoring iconic figures like Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar and former BJP leader Sushma Swaraj. DU’s Executive Council had approved these projects in 2021, signaling a commitment to broadening academic opportunities.
Modern Academic Blocks For East And West Delhi
The Eastern Campus in Surajmal Vihar, East Delhi, will feature a modern academic block built on a sprawling 15.25-acre campus at an estimated cost of ₹373 crore. This facility will cater to multidisciplinary programs such as LLB, LLM, and a five-year integrated LLB course. With 60 classrooms, six moot courts, computer labs, tutorial rooms, and spacious cafeterias, the block is designed to meet evolving academic needs.
Meanwhile, the Western Campus in Dwarka, Sector 22, will see the construction of an academic building costing ₹107 crore in its first phase. The project, spread over 19,434.28 square meters, will house 42 classrooms, two moot courts, a digital library, and conference rooms, among other modern amenities.
Veer Savarkar College: A Tribute To An Icon
Veer Savarkar College, to be built in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, adjacent to the UER highway, is another highlight of the initiative. With a budget of ₹140 crore, the college will feature 24 classrooms, eight tutorial rooms, a departmental library, faculty rooms, and other advanced facilities. The project reflects DU’s commitment to providing cutting-edge infrastructure for quality education.
In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Projects
On the same day, PM Modi will also inaugurate 1,675 newly constructed flats under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project in Swabhiman Apartments, Ashok Vihar, Delhi. These flats aim to improve living conditions for dwellers of Jhuggi Jhopri clusters by offering better housing equipped with modern amenities. Eligible beneficiaries will pay a nominal contribution of ₹1.42 lakh, a small fraction of the government’s ₹25 lakh investment per flat.
This marks the second successful rehabilitation project by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), reflecting the government’s commitment to “Housing for All.”
Urban Redevelopment And Eco-Friendly Projects
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate two transformative urban redevelopment projects—the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar and the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar.
The WTC features commercial towers replacing over 600 dilapidated quarters, offering 34 lakh square feet of premium commercial space while adhering to green building practices. Similarly, the GPRA project provides over 2,500 eco-friendly residential units, designed with rainwater harvesting systems, sewage treatment plants, and solar-powered compactors.
CBSE’s Integrated Office Complex And Green Initiatives
Adding to the day’s milestones, PM Modi will inaugurate CBSE’s Integrated Office Complex in Dwarka. Built with an investment of ₹300 crore, the facility includes offices, an auditorium, an advanced data center, and comprehensive water management systems. The eco-friendly building adheres to the Platinum Rating standards of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
These developments, valued at over ₹600 crore, signify a leap toward creating sustainable and world-class infrastructure for education and urban living in Delhi.
