A 42-year-old man died after allegedly assaulting a minor girl in a Mumbai hotel, leading to serious legal charges and a thorough police investigation. The incident occurred at a hotel on Grant Road, Mumbai, where the man, a manager with a diamond company, checked in with a 14-year-old girl. The police have since booked the deceased under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, following a complaint filed by the girl’s mother.
The deceased, who hailed from Surat, Gujarat, had brought the minor with him to Mumbai, claiming she was his daughter. On Saturday afternoon, he checked into a hotel in the city, presenting forged documents that falsely showed the girl as his daughter. Barely two hours later, the situation took a tragic turn as the man collapsed. Hotel staff rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival. Initial police reports suggest that he might have suffered a heart attack or an overdose from an artificial stimulant.
The minor girl informed the hotel staff about the man losing consciousness, prompting them to contact the police. Following the incident, the girl’s mother arrived in Mumbai and filed a complaint. She accused the deceased of luring her daughter to Mumbai under false promises and later sexually assaulting her. According to the police, the man was a friend of the girl’s father, who is paralyzed. The deceased used to visit their home frequently and provided financial assistance to support the father’s medical treatment, which seemingly allowed him to gain the family’s trust.
Inspector Sanjay Gaikwad from the DB Marg police station said that a post-mortem was conducted at JJ Hospital, and the man’s viscera has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina for chemical analysis to determine the exact cause of death. The police have registered a first information report (FIR) under sections 137(2), 64(1), 65(1), 336(2), 336(3), and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the POCSO Act. The minor girl also underwent a medical examination to support the investigation.
“We are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death,” Gaikwad stated, adding that further inquiries are ongoing to uncover more details about the events leading up to the tragic incident. The police are also examining whether the deceased had used any artificial stimulant that could have contributed to his sudden demise.
This incident has raised significant concerns about the safety and well-being of minors and the misuse of trust by known individuals. Authorities are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness, ensuring that all aspects of the case, including the assault allegations and the man’s sudden death, are thoroughly investigated.
