Illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were recently apprehended in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar during a major crackdown on unauthorized migrants by the Delhi Police. The arrested individuals, including a woman and two children, confessed to entering India illegally using fake documents. They were identified as residents of Bagerhat, Bangladesh.
The police launched this operation after suspicious activities were reported in the area. Following their detention, verification of their documents revealed their fraudulent nature. Further investigation confirmed their Bangladeshi nationality using mobile phone data and contact numbers. The detainees were presented at the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in RK Puram before being deported back to Bangladesh.
Delhi Police’s Verification Drive
This arrest is part of a broader two-month verification campaign initiated by the Delhi Police under the directive of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The drive primarily targets slums, unauthorized colonies, and labor camps where illegal migrants are suspected to reside. Dwarka district DCP Ankit Kumar disclosed that his team had already verified 500 individuals as part of the ongoing operation.
Ongoing Deportations
In the past week, over 30 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been deported from Delhi. On December 29, 2024, eight Bangladeshi nationals residing in the Rangpuri area were identified and deported. Similarly, on December 27, 2024, the police raided various slums and unauthorized colonies, detaining seven migrants, including five women.
On Thursday, a Bangladeshi citizen, Mohammad Bablu, was arrested in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj and subsequently deported. A day prior, 11 illegal migrants living in hotels across southwest Delhi were detained and sent back to Bangladesh.
