Amit Shah To Launch BHARATPOL Portal For Law Enforcement Agencies

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the BHARATPOL Portal, developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on January 7, 2025. This initiative marks a transformative step for Indian law enforcement agencies, enhancing real-time information sharing and international collaboration. The event, set to take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, underscores the government’s commitment to empowering law enforcement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

What Is The BHARATPOL Portal?

The BHARATPOL Portal is a state-of-the-art platform designed by the CBI to simplify and expedite international cooperation in criminal investigations. Acting as the National Central Bureau (NCB-New Delhi) for INTERPOL in India, the CBI handles communication with INTERPOL, Central, State, and Union Territory agencies through Liaison Officers (ILOs) and Unit Officers (UOs).

Currently, this communication relies on outdated methods such as letters, emails, and faxes, which hinder efficiency. The BHARATPOL Portal addresses these issues by streamlining the process of international assistance, including the issuance of Red Notices and other INTERPOL colour-coded notices.

This innovative tool is especially critical in tackling the growing challenges of transnational crimes, such as cybercrime, financial fraud, online radicalisation, organised crime, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. Field-level police officers will benefit from faster and more reliable access to international police support, significantly improving their ability to combat complex crimes.

Key Features And Impact

The portal will enable real-time information sharing and simplify the process of seeking international assistance in criminal cases. This is vital as India faces an increasing number of cross-border crimes requiring swift and efficient solutions.

With its focus on enhancing collaboration, the portal will strengthen India’s law enforcement system and reinforce its ability to address modern-day criminal challenges effectively.

Event Highlights

During the launch event, Amit Shah will also present Police Medals to 35 CBI officers in recognition of their Distinguished Service and Excellence in Investigation. These honors include the President’s Police Medal and the Union Home Minister’s Medal.

The event will be attended by senior officials from key ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, and Central Vigilance Commission.

The introduction of the BHARATPOL Portal represents a pivotal step in India’s fight against transnational crimes, ensuring faster coordination and access to global police support. This development reaffirms the government’s dedication to modernizing law enforcement infrastructure and empowering agencies to address emerging threats effectively.
