Bengaluru Tragedy: Cab Driver Allegedly Poisons Wife, Two Daughters Before Taking His Own Life
In a heart-wrenching incident from Bengaluru’s Yelahanka taluk, a 38-year-old cab driver reportedly poisoned his 30-year-old wife and two young daughters, aged three and five, before ending his own life. The tragic event took place on Sunday night in Rajanukunte, shocking the local community and triggering an ongoing investigation by the police.
Timeline of the Incident
According to police sources, the driver allegedly administered poison first to his two daughters and then to his wife. Following this, he reportedly took his own life by hanging. The chilling sequence of events came to light the next morning when the house owner, concerned about the family not opening the door, tried to contact them.
When his attempts failed, the house owner notified the driver’s brother, who rushed to the residence. Upon arrival, the brother found the house locked from the inside and received no response despite repeated knocking and calls. Fearing the worst, he broke open the door and stumbled upon a horrific scene: the driver had hanged himself, while the lifeless bodies of his wife and daughters were found inside the house.
The brother immediately alerted the police at the Rajanukunte police station, and officers were dispatched to the scene to begin their investigation.
Police Investigation and Preliminary Findings
Superintendent of Police (SP) CK Baba from Bengaluru Rural District provided preliminary information about the deceased. The cab driver had relocated from Kalaburagi to Bengaluru approximately five to six years ago, working with various ride-hailing services to support his family.
SP Baba stated, “The brother forced the door open after multiple unanswered calls and discovered that the man had taken his life by hanging. We are treating the case as two separate incidents—murder in the case of the poisoned wife and children, and suicide involving the driver.”
The police suspect that the man’s financial or personal difficulties may have contributed to the tragic event, but they have not yet determined a clear motive. Investigators are now interviewing family members, friends, and neighbours to gather further insights into the family’s circumstances. They also examined the driver’s professional life to determine whether work-related stress could have played a role.
Separate Cases Registered for Investigation
“We have registered two separate cases—one for the murder of the woman and children and another for the driver’s suicide,” the superintendent added. The police are also waiting for the post-mortem results to confirm the exact cause of death and the type of poison used.
SP Baba emphasized the importance of understanding the underlying factors that led to the incident. “We are thoroughly investigating all possible angles, including any financial burdens, mental health issues, or interpersonal conflicts, to find what drove him to this extreme action,” he said.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Neighbours, who described the family as quiet and reserved, expressed disbelief over the events. “They mostly kept to themselves and didn’t interact much with the neighbourhood,” one resident said.
