Army Officer Assaulted in Kerala NCC Camp Over Food Poisoning Scare

An Army officer was assaulted during an NCC training camp in Kerala’s Thrikkakkara following a food poisoning scare. The incident occurred late on December 23 when a crowd stormed the camp, disrupting operations amid claims of over 80 cadets suffering from food poisoning symptoms like vomiting. The disturbance escalated when local political leaders allegedly led the mob, and two individuals physically attacked the officer on duty around 11:30 pm.

An Army officer was assaulted after suspected food poisoning triggered a storm at the camp in Kerala. The situation turned violent when the crowd, reportedly led by CPI(M)/Students’ Federation of India (SFI) District Head Bhagya Laxmi and BJP Local Councillor Pramod, entered the premises, reacting to unverified reports of food poisoning among cadets. Despite the commotion, the officer showed remarkable restraint and did not retaliate against the attackers, as captured in a video shared as evidence.

Following the scare, the State Health Department swiftly collected samples of food, water, and stool for testing. However, as of now, no conclusive results have been provided. The camp’s Commandant, Lt Col Karnail Singh, expressed frustration over the lack of action from the police, emphasizing concerns over the safety of NCC cadets and officers.

The police have initiated an investigation, though the delay in addressing the case has raised alarms. Camp authorities were asked to provide details of the alleged attackers for further legal proceedings. Two individuals involved in the assault have already been arrested. Kochi Police Commissioner P. Vimaladitya confirmed the arrests, adding that the investigation is ongoing, and legal action will be taken against those responsible.

This incident raises significant concerns about the safety protocols at NCC camps, particularly when faced with unverified rumors. The ongoing investigation and legal action aim to ensure that the responsible individuals are held accountable for their actions.
