The Supreme Court on Monday made scathing comments on the state and central governments regarding increasing pollution in Delhi-NCR. The Supreme Court said that people are dying and more people will be killed, but the people sitting in the regime are only interested in Gimmicks. The Supreme Court directed that Rs 1 lakh be fined on those who violate the ban on construction work and Rs 5 thousand on those who burn garbage. Municipal corporations should also keep an eye on dumping garbage in the open. Instead of accusing each other, Delhi and Central Government should take immediate steps. The court summoned the chief secretaries of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab on 6 November.

The Supreme Court directed the Center that environmental experts be called to the court within 30 minutes. There was no improvement in air quality in Delhi-NCR on Monday as well. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Gurgaon was recorded at over 800. This is the highest in the season. The NGT has summoned the Chief Secretary of Delhi, Chairman of Delhi Pollution Control Committee, Secretary of Central Pollution Control Board, Joint Secretaries of Forest Department, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment on this issue.

A bench of justices Arun Mishra and Justice Deepak Gupta asked the Delhi government – ban on diesel vehicles is understandable, but what is the reason behind the Odd-Even scheme? People are losing precious years of life because of pollution, the administration left them to die.

The bench said – Now we will look into this matter. The burning of stubble should be stopped immediately, all states take necessary steps to prevent it. The state governments are responsible for this. They are only interested in elections, they are making fun of everything. We are now going to hold them responsible from top to bottom.

“If there is a bedroom in Lutyens of Delhi, then their AQI is also more than 500. Air purifiers cannot work here, can we live this way? We cannot survive this way. “

The bench said – Every year Delhi suffers, we are unable to do anything. The question is that this is happening every year. This should not happen in a civilized country. Why is so much stubble burned every year? Every year there is same issue. States are aware of this, but they are not settling the case.

The Supreme Court said – the situation is serious. What is your stand as the government of the Center and Delhi? What do you want to do to reduce pollution? The center must do something. The state must do something, this is too much. There is no room safe to live in this city. People are not safe even in homes.

The court directed that the power cuts in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh should be completely stopped, to ensure that diesel generators are not being used. The high level committee of states should meet today and submit the report to us by 6 November.
