Hands down one of the most iconic TV shows ever made, Sex and the city was ahead of its time in every sense. Probably the reason why when it comes to relationships and dating, it remains relatable as AF, even today!
Through numerous re-runs of SATC, we realised why nobody in India dared to even think about making the desi reboot of our favourite show. However, a fan can imagine and we, as the ardent devotees of the “coolest girl gang ever”, took it upon ourselves to re-imagine the cast with Bollywood counterparts. Trust us, it was damn hard, but we tried our best!
After breaking the main SATC characters’ personalities and loads of speculation, we present to you our version of the Sex and The City, with a dash of Bollywood!
Charlotte York- Sonam Kapoor
The Park Avenue girl, Charlotte has everything from the beginning of the show except her “true love”. The ever-sophisticated lady in SATC reminds us of Sonam in Aisha. Gullible, dressing up in chic attires and living in a world of her own, Sonam was completely clueless about how “love” is supposed to be. Sonam is very much our Charlotte.
Harry Goldenblatt- Dhanush
When Charlotte meets Harry, she was kind of thrown off by his outer appearance. Forget others, turns out Harry was the best love interest in the entire show. Harry’s character graph was similar to Dhanush’s role in Ranjhaana, where both break all the conventional expectations of love. Also, Sonam’s character dumped Dhanush for obvious reason in the movie, so who better than Dhanush to play Harry to our Indian Charlotte!
Samantha Jones- Richa Chadha
One word – BOLD! And that similar jawline that both the actresses share. If any Bollywood film maker ever dared to make this iconic show in a film, look no further than Richa Chadha. Epic comic timing and loads of sass, Richa is an alter-ego of Samantha!
Smith Jerrod- Ali Fazal
Zafar opposite Richa on screen. Do we need to say more?
Miranda Hobbes – Kalki Koechlin
Kalki is known for playing a range of eccentric characters and roles that stand their ground. So when it comes to picking the desi avatar of undaunted and ever-unconventional, Miranda, the lawyer friend from SATC, our search started and ended on Kalki.
Steve Brady- Rajkumar Rao
Take an average guy, put Rajkummar in the script and you have a character who will love you no matter what! Rao is our pick for Steve because we think he would look perfect opposite Kalki and also, he will bring Steve’s heart-warming humour on screen with a finesse.
Carrie Bradshaw- Kareena Kapoor
This one’s a very difficult decision for us! Bollywood has no dearth of leading ladies have that could play a complicated character like Carrie. But what we were actually looking for was an actress who is mature but absolutely stunning. Bebo made it easy for us. She is our Carrie as she could play a girl blindly in love and a girl who could walk away with her head held high. Not to mention her impeccable style on and off screen! *Feeling Proud on our pick*
Mr. Big- Arjun Rampal
A Hot guy over 40 who is afraid of commitment to play Carrie’s love, Mr. Big? Arjun Rampal! OHH! HELL YES!
*We hate you like we love you*
Aidan Shaw- Prabhas
The guy of every girl’s dream at present in India, the Southern Hunk, Prabhas is our pick for the guy who truly loved Carrie! Every fan of Carrie’s has hated her at one point. When she dumped Aidan, our hearts too were snapped in two! Prabhas is perfection and he is definitely our Aidan!
Aleksandr Petrovsky- Saif Ali Khan
Saif has aced playing self-centred characters in the past. Plus, he is suave, dreamy and looks good opposite Kareena. So, it should come as no surprise to you as to why we chose him to play Artist/Carrie’s third major boyfriend in SATC. Stanford Blatch- Boman Irani
Carrie’s gay best friend from the series, Boman, sorry Standford, or was it Boman? Please refer to the image below for further clarification.
We would like to end in Carrie’s style- We couldn’t help but wonder why no one from Bollywood has not recreated the magic of Sex and The City on silver screen!
