Earlier this year, actor Rahul Bose made into the headlines for posting a video that stated that JW Marriot, Chandigarh charged Rs. 442 for two bananas that he ordered post-workout.
The actor shared a video stating the bill where he was charged for two bananas. In the video, on the bill, one can see that the bananas were grandly listed as “fruit platter”.
The actor recorded the entire scenario & put it up on his social media account. He captioned the video, ”You have to see this to believe it. Who said fruit wasn’t harmful to your existence? Ask the wonderful JW Marriott Chandigarh. The “Pyaar Ke Side Effects” actor captioned the video, “bananas are just too good for me”. He became an overnight headline with his video. Everyone around the world started to share their stories with #RahulBoseMoment.
In return for overcharging their customers for two bananas, Excise and Taxation Department of the state fined the hotel for Rs. 25,000 under the violation of Section 11 of CGST.
This doesn’t stop.
Very recently, singer & music composer Shekhar Ravjiani also shared the similar experience that took place with him at the Hyatt Regency, Ahmedabad. The singer was charged Rs. 1672 for 3 boiled eggs.
The singer & music composer Shekhar shared a picture of the bill on his twitter and captioned the picture, “Rs. 1672 for 3 egg whites? That was an Eggxorbitant meal”
The netizens took dig on the actor and asked him to go to “laari and have eggs”.
Most recently, actor & comedian Mallika Dua also shared her experience with Marriott Fairfield in Lucknow. The actor was charged Rs. 443 for two bananas. She also posted the bill, which stated the bananas under “fruit platter”.
The comedian tagged Rahul Bose and wrote, “Same pinch/punch”. She further wrote on her Instagram story with a picture of the bill, “Wow, guess who made the mistake of ordering two bananas at the Marriott Fairfield in Lucknow. Four hundred and forty-three bucks for two bananas conveniently billed and listed as “fruit platter”. You deserve to shut down, Marriott. For the s**t service and for scamming customers. How dare you?”
Well, the Internet had a lot t say when the actors & singers posted their bill & called out at the 5-star hotels for charging them with the whopping amount. Some have shared their own experiences & some criticized the hotels for charging such a huge amount for fruits & eggs.
Some people have also criticized the actors & singers for ordering the fruits & eggs without looking at the price on the menu. People called out this as a cheap publicity stunt.
While all these incidents have come as a shock to the hotel industry, some of them have come out and stated that purchasing fruits & eggs from the market and then serving & charging extra from the guests is not right.
