Did you also wake up to the news of a 26-year-old veterinary doctor from Hyderabad raped and then burnt? Yes, then we are all in this together. If not yet, let us explain what happened.
A 26-year-old, well educated and well dressed up doctor who had a healthy life, work & loving home, she was abducted, gang-raped and burnt in the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Police were informed the next day after a villager saw an unburnt hand from the body that was burning from the crime scene. The men accused of raping and killing the woman dragged her into an empty plot near Thondaplli toll plaza in Shamshabad on a Wednesday night. They raped one after the other, and one of them is believed to have smothered her while raping her so that the people do not hear her crying for help. She is supposed to have died because of the suffocation. They monstrous men then took her body in a truck to Shadnagar where they found an underpass on the highway. They burnt her.
After further investigation, it clears out that the men planned to rape the woman when they saw her parking her scooter at the toll plaza. The scooter had a flat tyre and the men approached her on the pretext of helping her. The men assured her that they would get her tyre fixed, and even though she was scared, she let them help her because she wanted to go back home as soon as possible. They dragged her, raped her, killed her and then burnt her.
The doctor was scared for her life as she mentioned to her sister over a call. Victim’s younger sister said she did not expect such a gruesome incident would happen to her sister. She spoke and explained that she never thought that her last call to her sister would actually turn her last call forever and she’d never been able to talk to her. The doctor called her sister to tell her that she is scared for her life and the younger one thought that it’s because it was late. She only understood that the matter was serious when the victim’s phone was switched off, but she still believed that it could be a genuine network issue. Since, neither the doctor dialled 100 nor her sister, she feels like she should have asked her to dial 100 to be sure. The younger sister thinks that the government should bring awareness to the fact that people should dial 100 as soon as they feel a little scared.
The entire nation is disgusted with the news that reminded everyone of the Nirbhaya case that took place in Delhi NCR 2016. Rapes haven’t stopped from any part of the country. Kathua Murder Case, Dalit murder case where the girl was beheaded by brothers and uncle, a mentally challenged woman was raped by a social worker, etc. The list never ends. According to the survey and studied a woman is raped every 20 minutes in the country.

Farhan Akhtar pointed out the dark reality of how “safe” our society is for a woman. “What those men did to #Priyanka_Reddy is another dark reminder of how unsafe we’ve allowed our society to become by not delivering swift and telling justice in these cases..!” He also mentioned that he cannot imagine what her family might be going through right now with their elder daughter’s passing away in such a horrific way.

Stand up to any wrong behaviour, correct them and make them understand. And those who don’t behave like humans don’t deserve human rights. Give them what they deserve.”
The Hyderabad police have arrested the accused named Mohammed Areed, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu. They accused have been sent to the 14-day judicial custody by Shadnagar Court. Police found the accused via human intelligence and CCTV footage.
People have started to share their views, condemns and condolences for the family. People and celebrities recalled the gruesome case of Nirbhaya and said that our country is a dark place to live in. Everyone is looking out for answers about how to make Indian society safe for the women of the country. Seriously, try thinking about how can you teach a guy/men about not believing that she’s asking for it or she’s dressed for it.
The entire nation stands together for the justice that wasn’t served at the Nirbhaya’s case. People demand immediate action, which is “hanged to death”, but guess we’ll have to wait for 14 days till some verdict is given.
Stay Safe Ladies. You’re your protector.
