Coldplay's Ahmedabad Concert Sees Massive Queues On BookMyShow, Fans Express Frustration

Unprecedented Demand For Coldplay’s Fourth Concert In India

The excitement surrounding Coldplay’s fourth concert in India reached a fever pitch as ticket bookings opened at 12 pm on Saturday for the much-anticipated event at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Scheduled for January 25, 2025, this bonus show was announced after overwhelming demand for the band’s initial three performances in Mumbai earlier this year. However, fans faced disappointment yet again, as queues on BookMyShow skyrocketed into the lakhs within minutes of the tickets going live.Coldplay's 2nd Ahmedabad show sells out within minutes too, fans say 'I'm exhausted'

Fans Frustrated By Long Queues

Several fans took to social media to express their frustration over the massive queues on BookMyShow. For many, this was their third attempt at securing tickets, following unsuccessful tries for Coldplay’s Mumbai concerts.

One fan posted a screenshot showing their queue number at a staggering 3.5 lakh and humorously remarked, “Why is @bookmyshow forcing me to look at my JEE main rank again and again?” Another fan lamented their position in the queue, quipping, “Even if we had 2 Narendra Modi Stadiums, I would still not get it.”

Despite the challenges, BookMyShow has dubbed the Ahmedabad show as Coldplay’s biggest concert to date, with the venue boasting a capacity of over 1 lakh seats, making it the largest stadium in the world.

Record-Breaking Demand For Mumbai Concerts

Coldplay’s first three concerts in India, scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21 at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai, had already set a precedent for unprecedented demand. Tickets for these shows sold out within minutes, with queue numbers exceeding 8 lakh during the booking phases. The band’s decision to add a fourth concert in Ahmedabad was an effort to accommodate more fans, but the overwhelming demand has persisted.

Black Marketing And ED Investigation

The announcement of the Ahmedabad concert also follows a controversy surrounding allegations of black marketing of tickets for the Mumbai shows. Reports surfaced claiming that tickets, sold out within minutes on official platforms like BookMyShow and Zomato Live, were being resold on unauthorized websites at exorbitant prices.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has since launched an investigation into the alleged illegal resale of tickets for Coldplay and other popular events, including Diljit Dosanjh’s concerts. The probe highlights the challenges associated with managing massive demand for international artists in India and ensuring fair access to tickets.

About Coldplay’s India Tour

Coldplay‘s Music of the Spheres World Tour has been a monumental success globally, and their India leg has generated unmatched excitement among fans. The band initially announced two concerts at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai, scheduled for January 18 and 19, 2025. Due to overwhelming demand, a third concert was added on January 21.

The latest Ahmedabad show, scheduled for January 25, has been touted as Coldplay’s most ambitious concert in India, set in the world’s largest stadium. Fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to witness iconic hits like “Fix You,” “Paradise,” and “Yellow” live in an unforgettable setting.

Fans Share Mixed Emotions

While many fans expressed frustration over the difficulty in securing tickets, others celebrated the opportunity to potentially attend what is being described as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

One fan remarked, “Even if I couldn’t get the tickets, it’s amazing to see the kind of excitement Coldplay has brought to India. Hopefully, BookMyShow can figure out a better system for such massive demand.”

Another fan, who managed to secure a spot, said, “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but I finally got my ticket. Can’t wait to see them live!”

What’s Next For Coldplay Fans?

With tickets for the Ahmedabad concert still in high demand, many fans remain hopeful about last-minute opportunities to secure seats. BookMyShow has urged fans to rely on official platforms and avoid unauthorized resale websites.

As the January dates draw closer, Coldplay’s concerts promise to be a defining moment for live entertainment in India, cementing the country as a prime destination for international music tours.
