“Panipat” starring Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt & Kriti Sanon has been the topic of the town since the trailer dropped November 5th.
Panipat is an upcoming Indian historical war movie directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar. The concept of the film is entirely based on the Third Battle of Panipat. It is all set to release on 6th December 2019.
Third Battle of Panipat is remembered in history as the Marathas who emerged as the most powerful empire in India during the 18th century faced Afghan King Ahmad Shah Abdali on the battlefield. King Ahmad wanted to take over India, but the Maratha Peshwa wasn’t ready to let go of his homeland without giving the Afghan King the toughest battle of his life. Maratha Peshwa orders Sadashiv Rao Bhau to stop King Ahmad at any cost.
The trailer of the movie opens up by showcasing the Maratha Empire and then showing Arjun Kapoor as Sadashivrao Bhau. He is handed the Peshwa sword, which establishes the fact that he is the leader of the battalion. Kriti Sanon is introduced as Parvati Bai.
She is Sadashivrao’s dutiful wife. She looks beautiful in the Marathi getup, but her appearance fondly reminds you of Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ character Kashi Bai from Bajirao Mastani. Parvati Bai is also seen supporting her husband on the battlefield and killing a few enemies putting her sword skills to some action.
Sanjay Dutt is playing the character of King Ahmad Shah Abdali, who is the antagonist in the movie. Sanjay Dutt, as a powerful king with powerful dialogue delivery, appears to be convincing. We are also shown some other characters involved in the Third Battle of Panipat too. We are then shown some well-choreographed fight sequences and cinematic portrayal of the time of the war with some convincing acting from the cast.
Since the trailer dropped, it has received mixed reviews from the fans. Some have appreciated & tweeted that they have been waiting for the movie for a long time now. Some are excited to see Sanjay Dutt & Arjun Kapoor sharing screen space for the first time ever. Some feel that Sanjay Dutt’s character takes away the entire limelight from Arjun Kapoor’s character, which is supposed to be the protagonist of the movie.
Some of the fans have listed out the similarities between Panipat, Bajirao Mastani & Padmaavat as a whole. Some fans have tweeted that they are not convinced with Arjun Kapoor as the Peshwa warrior. They have pointed out the fact that Arjun’s dialogue delivery is fragile, and that’s not how a warrior should speak. Some pointed out that Sanjay Dutt looks more like Khilji from Padmaavat.
Ashutosh Gowariker is known for making commendable movies like Lagaan, Jodha Akbar, Swades, etc. He is known as the master of the periodical movie genre but for Panipat, let’s just say that the trailer does look like a mixture of both Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie. Some fans have drawn the comparison between Arjun Kapoor & Ranveer Singh as Ranveer played Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani. The looks of both the characters are quite similar, but that can be a coincidence, right? Both actors are portraying Peshwa warriors onscreen, and maybe that’s the reason the actors adapted similar looks.
Kriti’s character is compared to Kashi Bai from Bajirao Mastani that is also kind of true. It’s not just the characters that are similar, but some fans have pointed out that the props & setups used in the movie are also identical. Sanjay Dutt’s headgear at the end of the trailer looks very similar to Ranveer Singh’s Khilji’s character from Padmaavat.
Well, we are not comparing the story or the acting of the actors of Panipat to the actors who have already worked in the periodical dramas like Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat or even Jodha Akbar. But it’s tough not to compare Arjun with Ranveer especially at the end of the trailer. We hope that when Panipat comes out on 6th December, it sets up a new benchmark in the industry just like SLB’s movies did.
Panipat also stars Monish Bahl, Padmini Kolhapure, Zeenat Aman and Suhasini Mulay among the other cast members. The movie will be clashing Kartik Aaryan starrer “Pati Patni Aur Woh” which also stars Bhumi Pednekar & Ananya Pandey in the lead. It will be interesting to watch which genre wins your heart!
