A Noida woman allegedly plotted to murder a 21-year-old BCom student after he refused to marry her, police reported. The shocking incident unfolded following their recent connection on social media.
Hansraj, the victim’s father, informed police that his son, Dheeraj, was lured by the woman, Priya, into meeting her on December 24. Dheeraj, who resides in Ronija village, met Priya six months ago on social media. Their friendship grew, and she later moved to Greater Noida.
According to the complaint, Priya spiked Dheeraj’s drink during their meeting and subsequently called two accomplices. Together, they attempted to harm him with a sharp weapon. Dheeraj was later found unconscious in a car by locals, who promptly alerted the police.
The case highlights how social media platforms can sometimes facilitate connections leading to dangerous consequences. Priya and Dheeraj’s friendship, which began online, turned fatal when expectations and reality clashed.
Rabupura Police Station in-charge, Inspector Raghavendra Kumar Singh, confirmed that a complaint has been filed under several sections, including an attempt to murder. Dheeraj is currently receiving treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, and the investigation continues to identify Priya’s accomplices.
While social media often connects people positively, incidents like this underscore the importance of exercising caution in virtual relationships.
