The netbanking and mobile app server of HDFC, the largest private sector bank, came to a standstill on Saturday. According to senior bank officials, the server came to a standstill at 3 pm on Saturday, due to which the effect is being seen across the country. Bank officials are unable to understand the reason for the server stagnation even after RBI announced the investigation.
Fourth day in a week
The bank’s mobile app and NetBanking website were first stalled on December 2. This again started on Wednesday, due to which the customers of the bank were upset for three consecutive days. It started functioning properly on Wednesday evening. Due to this, people were not able to make their EMI, credit card bills and other necessary payments on time after coming salary at the beginning of the month. The bank had also apologized on social media about the problems being faced by customers. After this, the bank’s server has stopped on Saturday.
This can be due two big reasons
If bank officials are to be believed, there may be two big reasons for the last time the server stopped. The first bank had installed a new firewall to increase security on the server, which allows the transaction of one rupee to proceed only after thorough investigation. This causes the server to overload, which is taking time to complete the transaction. The second reason is the sale of Fastag. Due to Bank’s emphasis on increasing the sales of Fastag, the server was also overloaded, which also caused the app and NetBanking site to come to a standstill.
The Reserve Bank of India has started the investigation by constituting a committee. This committee will find out the reasons, due to which the mobile banking app as well as the net banking service was disrupted for 72 hours. RBI Deputy Governor MK Jain said on a question asked after releasing the monetary review policy that the central bank is aware of this.
The central bank team will find out and issue appropriate guidelines to HDFC Bank later. If the RBI team felt that any kind of penalty should be imposed on HDFC Bank, it would be done so that such problems do not come to the customers in future.
