UP Minor suicides

In a harrowing incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district, a minor boy died by suicide after allegedly being stripped naked, beaten, and urinated on during a birthday party in his village. The boy’s family claimed that despite approaching the police to report the incident, their complaint was not registered, leaving the victim vulnerable to further harassment.

The tragic event has sparked outrage in the community, raising questions about the failure of authorities to take timely action.

The Incident: A Birthday Party Turns Into Nightmare

The incident occurred on December 20 during a birthday party in the boy’s village. According to the victim’s uncle, the boy was invited to the gathering where he was subjected to severe humiliation and physical assault.

“He was stripped naked, beaten, and urinated on during the party,” the uncle alleged. The victim returned home late that night and narrated the ordeal to his family the next morning. Shocked and distressed, the family approached the local police station to file a complaint. However, they claimed that the authorities refused to register their complaint.

Escalation of Harassment and Tragic Outcome

The boy’s family stated that the harassment did not end after the initial incident. “The accused harassed him again because the police did not act on our complaint,” said the victim’s uncle. The ongoing mistreatment, coupled with the lack of action from the authorities, pushed the minor to take the extreme step of ending his life.

On December 21, the minor was found dead, leaving the family and the community devastated.

Police Response and Case Registration

Circle Officer (CO) Pradeep Kumar Tripathi confirmed that a case had been registered at the Kaptanganj police station in connection with the suicide. “A boy died by suicide, and a case has been registered under the relevant sections,” he said.

Tripathi added that the suspected reason for the suicide was “mutual differences,” though the family has strongly denied this, insisting that the harassment at the birthday party was the primary cause.

The delay in registering the complaint and the subsequent inaction by the authorities have drawn sharp criticism from the family and residents.

Allegations of Police Inaction

The victim’s family has accused the police of negligence and indifference. They claimed that despite their repeated efforts to file a complaint, the authorities did not take their concerns seriously for three days.

“When we went to the police station to file a complaint, our request was denied. The accused continued to harass the minor because no action was taken. This ultimately led to his suicide,” the uncle said.

The allegations have raised questions about the accountability of local law enforcement and the systemic failures in addressing such sensitive cases.

A Tragic Reminder of Systemic Failures

The lack of timely intervention by law enforcement not only allowed the harassment to continue but also contributed to the tragic outcome.

As the investigation progresses, the focus must remain on ensuring justice for the victim and holding the perpetrators accountable. This incident underscores the urgent need for more robust measures to protect vulnerable individuals and ensure that no family has to endure such an unimaginable loss in the future.
