A bill was introduced in Parliament on Friday to honor Sikh policeman Sandeep Dhaliwal, who lost his life in Hate Crime two months ago in Texas, USA. Under this, a Houston Post Office was proposed to be renamed to Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Post Office. US lawmaker Lizzy Fletcher introduced the bill in the House of Representatives on Friday. She said Deputy Dhaliwal worked for equality, relationships and community in Texas and devoted his life to other’s services. Hence the ‘Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Post Office’ in Houston will always be a reminder of his services and sacrifices.

MP Fletcher continued, “I propose that the post office at 315 Addicks Howell Road in Houston be named ‘Deputy Dhaliwal Singh Post Office’.” I take pride in remembering Deputy Dhaliwal in this form. I want our Texas partners to approve this proposal soon. “

‘Deputy Dhaliwal was victim of Hate Crime’

Deputy Dhaliwal was shot and killed on September 27 in Texas while on traffic duty. Dhaliwal stopped the car for investigation, in which a woman and a man were riding. The attacker opened fire on Singh as they got out of the car. In Texas, people mourned after the incident. Tributes were paid to him from football matches to exhibitions.

Father said- Houston’s love made it easy to spend difficult times

This proposal of MP Fletcher has been praised by Dhaliwal’s parents. His father Pyara Singh Dhaliwal had said that it was due to the love we got in Houston that it was easy for us to spend the difficult time after Sandeep’s death. Thanking Fletcher, he said that we appeal the most to include Sandeep’s example of service and good work in their life.

Sim J Singh, manager of Sikh Coalition, an organization working for Sikhs, said, “The Sikh community is thankful to MP Fletcher and Houston Delegation for recognizing the influence of Sandeep Dhaliwal and his work.” We will try to maintain the honor of his legacy further.

Harris County Commissioner said- thank Fletcher for the proposal

Commissioner Adrian Garcia of Harris County, Texas said, “This is the best honor for our friend Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal. His death has left a void. But his legacy will continue on behalf of his family, friends and community. Deputy Dhaliwal worked earnestly for his office and community. Thanks to MP Fletcher for bringing the proposal in Parliament. “

Police recruitment rules changed keeping in mind Dhaliwal
In 2015, Dhaliwal became the first Texas policeman to be associated with the police service with a religious symbol and a turban-beard. For this he was given relaxation in policies. However, only last month after his death, the Houston Police Department completely changed its rules. Now any officer can do duty by keeping religious symbols.
