The four accused in the rape and murder of a 26-year-old Veterinary doctor in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana were remanded to 14 days judicial custody by the court. Following the fast track court order on Saturday, the accused were taken from Channaguda jail to Chanchalguda jail. There is outrage across the country since this incident. On Saturday, people demonstrated outside the Shadnagar police station in Hyderabad. Some people even demanded to hang the accused without trial or to do an encounter. The local bar association refused to defend the accused.
The Veterinary Doctor was gang-raped on Wednesday night. After this, the body was found on Thursday morning in partly burnt condition. The matter came to headlines on Friday. Subsequently, the Cyberabad police arrested four accused, Mohammad Arif, Zulu Siva, Zulu Naveen and Chintakunta Chennakeshawulu. Arif is 26 years old, while the rest of the accused are 20 years old. All were arrested from Narayanpet district. All of them are truck drivers and cleaners, who raped the doctor for 7 hours after drinking alcohol. The victim was then burnt on the outskirts of Shadnagar.
No lawyer will contest the case of the accused: Bar Association
The bar association belonging to the local court of Shadnagar has refused to contest the case of the four accused in the incident. Bar Association said – no lawyer will go to court to plead the four accused and legal aid will not be provided to them. The accused of rape and murder were produced in the fast track court of Mahbubnagar.
Demonstration from Hyderabad to Delhi on the issue of women safety
People protesting in Hyderabad against doctor’s murder and rape blocked the Bengaluru highway. A large number of school children also participated in the demonstration. After the incident in the capital, Delhi, Anu Dubey demonstrated outside the Parliament on the issue of women safety. On Saturday, Chairperson of National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma arrived to meet the victim’s family. She said that the family was angry with the attitude of the police. The action was delayed due to the police fighting over its jurisdiction. Rekha Sharma said that the culprits should be sentenced to death. Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Sundararajan also met the family of the victim.
Another dead body of a woman found in Telangana
On Friday, another woman’s burnt body was found in Siddula Gutta temple area of Shamshabad. This area comes under the RGI Airport Police Station. DCP Prakash Reddy said that the police had received information from the local people that the body of a woman was burning near the temple. Although people tried to extinguish the fire, they failed. The body is of a 35-year-old woman, but could not be identified.
