A 5-storey building collapsed in the Kajalpura area of Raigad in Maharashtra on Monday evening. According to Collector Nidhi Chaudhary, two people died in the accident. 18 people are still feared to be trapped under the debris of this building that fell in Mahad area. 60 people have been evacuated safely. Rescue operation in progress.
Maharashtra ministers, Aditi Tatchere and Eknath Shinde, arrived here after the incident on Monday evening. They said that 3 NDRF teams are present on the occasion. Those seriously injured have been sent to Mumbai. The incident will be investigated by the SIT. Home Minister Amit Shah said on Twitter that I have spoken to the NDRF DG about the incident in Raigad, Maharashtra. Every effort is being made for a rescue operation.
An official said that, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has spoken to the district officials and asked them to expedite rescue and relief work. It is being said that 50 families lived in this 10 year old building. This building was shaking for about an hour before the accident. As soon as the building started collapsing, around 70 people ran out of there and managed to save their lives. However, many people remained stranded. Several NDRF and fire brigade teams provided relief and rescue on the spot. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also contacted Parent Minister Aditi Tatkare and inquired about the accident in Mahad.
Police administration has said that the building collapsed at 7 pm. According to local reports, the building was located near Lake Hapus and was almost a decade old. There were 45 to 47 flats in this building, some people living in it came out of the building when it started moving. Local people say that there was a loud sound of the building collapsing, which scared them. After seeing smoke, many people ran towards the scene. Eyewitnesses told the media that people buried under the pile of the building were shouting. After that, the people started a rescue operation and informed the fire brigade.
Allegations of negligence in construction of the building
Shiv Sena MLA from Raigad, Bharat Gogawale, alleged that poor material was used in the construction of the building. They say that this may have been the reason for the building collapsing. NCP leader and Raigad’s foster minister, Aditi Tatkare, said that it is not right to discuss the reason behind the collapse of this building. Yes, it is sure that there is negligence behind the collapse of the building.
