The administration finally had to bow to the students who had been protesting for several days against various issues, including fee hike at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The increased hostel fees have been withdrawn during the official council meeting on the university campus on Wednesday.

The official council meeting at the JNU’s administrative building was proposed on Wednesday, with a decision to implement the new rules. However, in view of opposition from the students, the university administration has decided to withdraw the increased fees.

Before that, students of JNU Students’ Union had gathered outside the meeting room and demonstrated throughout the day for their demands.

Earlier, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad protested outside the UGC office over the fee hike, but at the same time the meeting venue was changed and the members of the official council were made to sit in a car without informing them and sent them to an unknown place for the meeting. During this time, the Delhi Police was seen with the University Administration posted in plain uniform inside the campus.

After this, the students of JNU who had gathered for the protest in front of the ad block reached the Pink Palace inside the campus. The students involved in the protest met the vice chancellor and wanted to discuss their demands.

Students got support of teachers union
Let us inform you that the university administration had locked the main gate of the university in view of the student protests. At the same time, on Wednesday, the teachers’ union has demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor, condemning the strictness taken with the students during the demonstration. The teachers’ union says that the police brutalized JNU students who were protesting in a peaceful manner in which several students were seriously injured.

They said that all this has happened at the behest of the Vice Chancellor, so he should resign from his post immediately. The police action makes it clear that VCs are constantly resorting to police to avoid interacting with students.

Along with this, the teachers ‘union has supported the demands of the students’ union opposing the university administration regarding the increase in hostel and mess fees.

He says that it is the duty of the university to provide residential and mess facilities to the students at reasonable prices. The teachers union does not accept the new rule of running hostels on the basis of self-financed scheme.
