- This was revealed in the book ‘India Tomorrow: Conversation with the Next Generation of Political Leaders’ published only last week.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has indicated a major reshuffle in the leadership of the party. These signs are also important because they have talked about making a member from outside the Gandhi family as Congress President.
Rahul Gandhi believes that he should not be tied to the label of politics. Politics is very important for him, but he also has other interests. At the same time, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra believes that Rahul’s stand that a non-Gandhi should be the president of the Congress is absolutely correct.
These thoughts of these two heirs of the Gandhi family’s legacy have come to light in the book ‘India Tomorrow: Convictions with the Next Generation of Political Leaders’ published last week. The book’s official release will be in Mumbai on Thursday. The book’s main author, Prof. Pradeep Chhibber teaches at the University of California, Berkeley and Harsha Shah is an alumnus of this university. The book has interviews with Priyanka and Rahul, along with Arvind Kejriwal, Sachin Pilot, Akhilesh Yadav, about 20 Indian leaders who are under 50 years of age.
‘Husband was accused, showed the paper to the son and told the truth’ – Priyanka
“When allegations were made about my husband, I went to my 13-year-old son and told him about every single transaction payment,” he said. I also told my daughter about this. I do not hide things from my children. I talk very openly with him.
Talking about her childhood days, Priyanka said in an interview that “after father became PM, our meeting with friends became less. At the time I was 14 and Rahul was 12 years old. Rahul was always calm and I used to get very angry”.
Rahul said on the accusations of going abroad on holiday – “if I live outside India, I get privacy without security. Let me take this time to understand different cultures”.
When Priyanka was asked about the party that lost the battle of perception against the BJP, she said,” Congress was slow to understand the ‘new media’ and by the time it tried to understand it, the damage was done”.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also said that she would accept a non-Gandhi as ‘boss’. She said, “if he (party president) tells me tomorrow that he does not want me in Uttar Pradesh, he wants me in Andaman and Nicobar then I will go to Andaman and Nicobar happily”.
After such statements by the Gandhi siblings, the citizens will be on the edge of their seats to find out if the congress party will actually elect a non Gandhi party president.
