What do women-led protests mean today in India?

In the wake of anti-CAA protests spread across the country, the women have assumed the forefront in a rather unprecedented manner. The occupation and holding of the ground by women of Shaheen Bagh has been an inspiration for women across the country to leave their houses and be the loudest voice of resistance, the ruling party needs today. The narrow streets of Shaheen Bagh are filled with women raising their voices against a religion based discrimination attempt of the central government through the passing of the CAA and the decision to have a pan India NRC. It has been more than a month since these women have been teaching the rest of the country the true meaning of a peaceful protest. Their numbers and will are steel-strong, that they remain undisturbed by the local police.

In a shocking incident, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested three suspected terrorists on January 16, 2020 (Thursday). It is being said that these men were allegedly planning an attack in New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. GoondaRaj in Uttar Pradesh- The Defeaning Silence.

The violence and vandalism that perpetrated in Uttar Pradesh for the past few weeks are terrifying, to say the least. In the big state of Uttar Pradesh, with a Muslim majority population, the unjust treatment of the Muslims in the wake of anti-CAA protests reminds us of the Gujarat Riots in 2002. What runs common between Gujarat in 2002 and Uttar Pradesh in 2020 is the ruling dispensation headed by the Bhartiya Janta Party. Accounts from the state have been terrifying signaling towards a complete collapse of the rule of law in the state. The involvement of the administration in the violence and vandalism is no more hidden but more of an established fact. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, with a tainted history, came forward fearlessly to use words like ‘revenge’ from the protestors who have been involved in the vandalism of public property during the protests.
