ArcelorMittal’s South Africa unit to shut down, 1000 of workers will lose Job

Amidst the downturn of the steel industry globally, Lakshmi Mittal’s ArcelorMittal's South Africa unit is going to shut down. Saldanha plant in South Africa was seen to be suffering a financial loss because of the regulated prices and raw materials, because of this, it was observed that the said plant is losing out its competitive cost advantage to compete in the export market. As a result, around 1000 workers will be losing their job. This came after the company performed a strategic operations review and found out that the Saldanha unit is running in loss. In a statement made by the company, it said, that the decision to close down the Saldanha unit was not a one-day decision. It came only after a constructive discussion with the key managerial people, government, stakeholders and the organised labour. The discussion revolved around to find a plausible solution to protect the Saldanha unit from being shut down.

A new Law to regulate Online Video Content?

After the first round of discussion, the information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry will now be holding its second round of consultation on the agenda of regulating the content of the online video in Chennai this week. The issue is regarding the content that these online video streaming application or website, and now even the industry pushes back on possible censorship. The first round of consultation took place in October in Mumbai and was attended by the top online curated content providers. It included Amazon, Netflix, Hotstar and also the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI)

Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) initiated against Aviva Life Insurance

In an order dated November 9, 2019, passed by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Bankruptcy proceedings have been initiated against the first financial company named Aviva Life Insurance Co. Ltd India. Insolvency proceeding initiated after the company was not paying the car parking, license fees, service charge or other maintenance charge and service tax to Apeejay Trust (Mumbai based). Aviva took office space at Apeejay Express located in Vashi, Mumbai in the year 2008 in June and owed an amount of Rs. 27,67,203 to Apeejay.

CAIT protest against the e-commerce companies, starting from November 13

The protest against the e-commerce companies continuous because of the anti-competitive practices and to join the race now, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has stepped out to fight with these companies including Flipkart, Amazon and other similar platforms. CAIT has launched a nationwide agitation against these companies as it is alleged that they are violating the law and the FDI policy. The claim of nationwide protest was claimed by trade leaders in the National Traders Conference which was held on Sunday in New Delhi and was organised bi CAIT. This nationwide protest will start from November 13 and will end on January 10, 2020
